General Duplication Policies The Collections Department provides duplication services for material in its collections in accordance with current United States Copyright Law. Some duplication requests may be subject to legal agreements made between Stan Hywet and an individual donor. Stan Hywet reserves the right to refuse a request if it is determined that the process of duplication would destroy or damage the material to be duplicated or if the request is not intended to be used for research, scholarship, preservation, or educational purposes. Copyright Most materials in our collection are subject to copyright protection. Therefore, copying of materials is usually permitted only with approval of the author, creator, or publisher. This protection covers both published and unpublished works. Architectural drawings may be further protected against construction of unauthorized structures based on their specifications. The doctrine of fair use, however, allows for the reproduction of copyrighted materials for educational and preservation purposes. On-Site Photocopying of Materials The Collections Department can provide on-site photocopies of material in its collections depending on the size and nature of the items. All photocopies are made by our Collections staff. A charge may be assessed for this service. Due to staffing and time constraints, the photocopying of materials may take several days. Requests will be filled as soon as possible. Off-Site Reproduction of Materials The Collections Department can authorize and facilitate reproduction of certain materials such as photographs, maps, and architectural drawings through a selected external vendor. Originals will be taken off site to the necessary vendor by the Collections Department staff.
