Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens hosts author Daniel Nelson at book signings this Sunday, November 22 from 1-4pm and Friday, December 4 from 6:30-8:30pm.
Mr. Nelson will be signing A Passion For The Land, a new biography about John F. Seiberling and available for purchase in the Museum Store.Based largely on unpublished correspondence and other previously unused materials, this is the first and only biography of John F. Seiberling (1918-2008), the grandson of F.A. and Gertrude Seiberling, founders of Stan Hywet Hall.
John F. Seiberling was born and grew up on this historic Estate which overlooks the Cuyahoga valley. As a congressman from Akron, Seiberling became a leader in the conservation movement and was instrumental in creation of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The author provides a detailed examination of the congressman's role as a dedicated environmentalist and Seiberling's successful bipartisan campaign to protect the Cuyahoga Valley —which became a stepping-stone to other important conservation efforts around the country.
About the Author Daniel Nelson is emeritus professor of history at the University of Akron and former director of the University of Akron Press. He has authored many books, including Northern Landscapes: The Struggle for Wilderness Alaska and American Rubber Workers & Organized Labor, 1900-1941.
For daytime shoppers, museum admission is not required for access to the conveniently located shop and adjacent cafe that are open from 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday – Sunday. The Museum Store is also open evenings during Deck the Hall. For information and ticket prices, visit www.stanhywet.org or call 330-315-3287.
