Seiberling Explorers

Explorers are taken on a variety of interactive adventures to the PlayGarden and throughout the estate.

Topics include animal habitats, geocaching, water colors, photography, butterflies, and questing.

No pre-registration; included in admission. Children ages 3-6, but all ages are welcome. An adult must accompany children.

Programs begin promptly at 10:30am in the Carriage House Courtyard.

Discovery Days

  • Drop-in anytime between 10am and 12 noon on select Thursdays, and explore the grounds with your kids.
  • Our staff will help get you started, and after that, continue at your own pace.
  • Try activities like geocaching, questing, bird watching, insect identification and more.
  • No pre-registration is required. Included in a "Garden & Grounds" admission.

Migrating Monarchs – Butterfly Tag & Release Event

  • Each autumn, millions of monarchs migrate 2,000 miles in search of a new home. Why do they do this? How do they survive the journey?
  • Discover the answers to these questions then receive your very own tagged monarch butterfly for release in our beautiful historic gardens. 
  • You’ll also learn how to follow your butterfly online using the Monarch Watch website. Price includes one tag and one butterfly to release and a self-guided grounds tour.

Education for Scouts

Making Sense of Stan Hywet

  • Scouts will use their five senses to make observations, collect data, and discover a variety of often-overlooked details around the Manor House and within the gardens.
  • Program may meet some of the Daisy Scout requirements for the “Think Like a Citizen Scientist” journey.
  • Materials for designing a take away field notebook and house and grounds admission is included.
  • Recommended for scouts ages 5-7.
  • Pre-registration required.

Introduction to Geocaching

  • Experience geocaching, a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game to locate hidden containers called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices.
  • Program may meet some of the scout requirements for Geocaching.  House and grounds admission is included with registration.
  • Recommended for scouts 7 and older.

Stan Hywet Scout Day | Sunday, July 11

  • All registered scouts receive a special group rate on admission to enjoy “Vintage Day” activities, including a 1920s historic baseball match on the Great Meadow, Butterfly Habitat, and living history in the Manor House.
  • Discover Geocaching, Questing, Explorer Backpacks and a special birding “activity station” during your visit.
  • Scouts and leaders, please wear your field uniforms to be eligible for discount.
  • Scouts: $5, leaders $5 (up to 2 per troup), adults $10.
  • Purchase tickets upon arrival.

 

Education for Adults

Photography Walk with Ian Adams 
Oct 24, 2-4 PM. Register by Oct. 16

  • Join Ohio landscape photographer, writer, and educator Ian Adams for a photography walk in the gardens at Stan Hywet during the peak of fall color.
  • Bring your iPhone, Android phone, or digital camera.
  • Ian will provide tips on garden and fall color photography as well as coaching for each participant.
  • Participants will also have an opportunity to purchase Ian’s eBook, iPhone Landscape and Nature Photography, at half off the cover price.
