About the Auxiliary Board

The Women’s Volunteer Administration Committee, organized in 1956, was the forerunner of the Women’s Auxiliary Board (WAB). This group of women volunteers, worked very hard to prepare Stan Hywet for the opening of the Estate on June 15, 1957 —making it possible for the public to take tours, and honoring the Seiberlings and their motto of Non Nobis Solum (Not for Us Alone).

Reorganized in 1964 as the Women’s Auxiliary Board, the WAB has raised over $6 million for the continued restoration and upkeep of the Estate. The padded chairs in the Manor House Auditorium, the furniture in the Wolle Building Board Room and funds to pay for the appraisal of the historic collection are but a few of the projects that this important volunteer group has funded. In addition to fundraising, the AB members have contributed 1 million volunteer hours to Stan Hywet.

In 2013, a new chapter began when the WAB was reorganized as the Auxiliary Board (AB) of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. The AB continues in the tradition of its forebears as a vital support organization of the Estate. Over the years, AB volunteers have contributed hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours to  Stan Hywet.
