Rebuilding and relocating the horticulture service center and poly houses will provide more space, increase productivity and help the estate to become more energy efficient.

More Space and Savings: The current, outdated storage barn will be demolished and rebuilt, creating much needed space that can also be used by the museum store for inventory, and by Molly’s Cafe for the café items. This newly added storage space for the two visitor service departments will result in substantial cost savings to them, because they will be able to take advantage of bulk purchasing. The additional storage space will eliminate the need to rent off-site space to store tents and other seasonal items used during special events.

Increased Productivity: The horticulture poly greenhouses will be moved to a new location and updated. These updated structures will provide better work space for horticulture volunteers, and improve the horticulture team’s ability to maintain Stan Hywet's world-class gardens. These greenhouses are throughout the year for growing new flowers and greenery from existing on the grounds. With more room for the horticulture staff and volunteers to work, production will increase, and Stan Hywet high standards will be ensured. With more productivity, Stan Hywet will be able to close the gap on the 10% of plant products currently purchased (at much higher cost) from outside vendors.

Increased Energy Efficiency: The current structures are not efficient in conserving heat and energy. By replacing these buildings, Stan Hywet will be more energy conscious, and better stewards of its gas resources.
